SCENE BREAK April 13, 2025
MY HEALTH
I am healing slowly. A friend told me that at our age a day in the hospital requires 10 days recovery. I believe it. Though the flu and pneumonia are gone, my lung is still not quite inflated all the way. One salivary gland is still blocked but I'm working on that. The doctor told me to massage the area and drink more water so that's what I'm doing. Water is not my drink of choice, so I have to be conscious of how much I drink.
MY WRITING LIFE
My 4th poetry book is published! Calling to Shore is a collection of nature and animal poetry that kinda mirrors my life. https://www.amazon.com/Calling-Shore-Mona-Mehas/dp/1966275021/ref=sr_1_1
I also have been writing a lot of new poems. Whenever I'm in workshops or readings I am inspired to write. I have enough for more books; it's just a matter of finding a publisher that wants them.
I participated in a 10-days-10-poems event on google groups. The host posted a resistance or resilience poem every morning from April 1 through April 10, along with writing prompts. We were invited to share whatever we wanted about the poems or compose our own. My goal was to write a poem each day for a chapbook. I ended up with 12 poems but one probably isn't headed for the chapbook.
That is one reason I haven't posted this newsletter yet. I've been busy writing.
WHAT I'M READING
I'm reading almost entirely other people's work. I volunteered to help Suzanne with her chapbook. She has an interesting theme I've never seen before. Also, Mary and Caron and Sandy from the senior group I work with. They often send me their work to read and offer suggestions. I love helping people like that. It's kinda sad that my mind strays a bit too much to read much at a time. I want to read a big book but it's almost impossible.
OTHER STUFF
I went to an Author fair yesterday put on by the local libraries. I gave away a bunch of older Poetry Society Collections and sold 4 of my books. Luckily, I didn't have to pay to participate. I will take my books the night of the open mic April 22.
While at the Author Fair, I wore several hats. As an author I talked up my work. As editor, I marketed Creative Expressions (the book by seniors) and Lost at 27. I gave away the PSI books and recruited members. One woman was interested in volunteering at Prime Life senior center. A videographer I met was interested in StarBase Indy.
Lots of hats.
STAR TREK
Not much happening on this front recently. I get together with the Star Trek Family group to watch shows whenever I can. Strange New Worlds is in line to be the next show ready to air. We have seen several trailers.
Wil Wheaton posted a 'fake' Star Trek show about the Travelers. It was for April Fool's Day. Now I want a Travelers show! That would be awesome. Maybe the powers-that-be will think about doing that.

TODAY'S CARDS
I have an interesting Black Tarot deck by Victoria Iva and Philip Young, PhD. The art is stark in shades of black, gray, and almost white. In this deck, my favorite cards are the knights. Maybe it's because I want to travel, journey, go on an adventure.
Knight of Wands: I need to go on an adventurist quest
Knight of Cups: traveling to deliver cures
Knight of Swords: be clear-headed with decision making
Knight of Spheres: find the solution and act on it
I composed a poem when I first saw these cards. It's not published yet.
